Interesting Tool

You guys might already know about this site, but if not you should. It's delicious. Great way to offload your brain.

And 43 Folders is another great spot for mac geeks and people who aspire to organization. Full of life hacks.

I haven't yet joined the cult of GTD (Getting Things Done) but it's on my To Do List, I swear.

  • I should've explained a bit about delicious....you set up an account and then you can create a "social bookmarks manager," which sounds odd but is pretty cool. Here's a quote from their "about" page:

» del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager. It allows you to easily add sites you like to your personal collection of links, to categorize those sites with keywords, and to share your collection not only between your own browsers and machines, but also with others.

» Once you've registered for the service, you add a simple bookmarklet to your browser (see below). When you find a web page you'd like to add to your list, you simply select the del.icio.us bookmarklet, and you'll be prompted for a information about the page. You can add descriptive terms to group similar links together, modify the title of the page, and add extended notes for yourself or for others.

» You can access your list of links from any web browser. By default, your links are shown to you in reverse chronological order, with those you've added most recently at the top. In addition to viewing by date, you can also view all links in a specific category (you define your own categories as you add the links), or search your links for keywords.

» What makes del.icio.us a social system is its ability to let you see the links that others have collected, as well as showing you who else has bookmarked a specific site. You can also view the links collected by others, and subscribe to the links of people whose lists you find interesting."

  • how incredibly helpful! and how incredibly thick with suggestions and information. i need an organizational technique to deal with the organization techniques.

i'm already looking at a way to create a physical tickle file in my office (43 folders, of course). looks like a great idea.

  • i've only got one thing i don't like so far about delicious: when you're viewing posts, only the word "edit" in the phrase "edit this post" is clickable. it's a small word (the text is quite small) on a page full of links, and this makes it especially difficult to hit without getting super-technical with your mouse.

the developers of delicious, though, are a little bit schizophrenic about this. once you're on the "edit this post" page, you can delete the post by clicking any part of the phrase "delete this post."

  • my username is bfeltovi...so far my use of delish is limited to thinking about ways to use it. i still haven't trained myself to make it second nature.

my other new favorite toy is desktop manager, which lets you build a series of virtual desktops that you can switch between.

with multiple monitors it can make your head spin!
